On the 19th February StreetWise Soccer in partnership with Salford City council put on the first NSSS Regional Qualifier of 2011. Taking place at the Cheetwood Centre, Cheetham Hill, Manchester, our first Regional Qualifier was a real hit with the locals. As well as our NSSS 2011 3 vs. 3 inflatable arenas, we had our street soccer cage and expert coaching team on hand to give Cheetwood Centre their first taste of street soccer. The enthusiasm shown by the participants, as well as the standard of street soccer was astonishing and the event was a fantastic way to kick start the NSSS 2011.
On 23rd February, Hoops Basketball Centre in Barrow played host for the NSSS 2011. Run in partnership with Barrow AFC, the event was a fantastic success. With hundreds of kids and young adults coming along to play for the opportunity to represent Barrow in our Wembley Grand Final, street soccer had arrived in Barrow. The event was a real spectacle; the competition was fierce, the standard being very high with some fantastic team performances on display.
Next was the Preston NSSS 2011 Regional Qualifier, taking place at Preston College on the 24th of February, ran in partnership with Preston City Council. Similar to Barrow the turn out was fantastic with hundreds of kids and young adults queuing out the door for the chance to become Preston Champions and progress to our National Wembley Grand Final. Again the standard of play
Also at the event was Preston’s own and world famous freestyle footballer John Farnworth. Being from Preston, we invited John along to be part of the NSSS 2011 and show him what StreetWise Soccer is all about but also the street soccer and freestyle football talent in that is apparent in Preston. John was delighted to back in his hometown, helping to showcase street soccer and freestyle football. Putting on performances and tutorials throughout the day, John gave the participants a perfect opportunity to study and learn the ways of freestyle football, which many were new to. John was a great inspiration, showing through determination and hard work, amazing things can be achieved, as he has took his skill and love for freestyle football and become one of the most lucrative entertainers in the world.
Sky Sports Soccer AM team also came up to film footage for their popular feature Skill Skool.
